first_img Author: Priyanka Ann Saini The Maersk Honam that was in the headlines when it caught fire on March 6, has arrived in Jebel Ali Port.Jebel Ali was chosen as the most suitable port to accommodate the vessel after careful evaluation with port authorities in the area. While in anchorage, hot spots in affected areas will be completely extinguished and further work to stabilise the vessel and bring it alongside will be carried out.Maersk Line expects this work to take 4-5 weeks whereafter Maersk Honam will be moved alongside for discharge operations to commence.Maersk Line continues to maintain regular contact and offer support to 22 crew members who were safely evacuated from the vessel. The remains of three of the four missing crew members who were found onboard the vessel remain unidentified and have been transferred to Mumbai, India, where local authorities are working on identification.A full investigation in collaboration with relevant authorities is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire. Inside the Lines: Who to Take and Not Take This Weekend in College and Pro Football Action

first_img While a pharmacy major at Toledo by day, Brandon Urasek is now making his mark in the journalism scene specializing in fantasy football and all things Cleveland sports. A five time fantasy football league champ and two time runner-up in ten tries, Brandon strives to help people with their lineups each week in both personal and weekly fantasy leagues in addition to covering the other various Cleveland teams. Follow Brandon on twitter @burasek10 Brandon Urasek NCAAF:Texas vs. Iowa StTexas -5.5Texas has looked like a completely different team that last couple weeks with wins over Oklahoma and Kansas St. They play the second worst team in the Big 12 in Iowa St. who should have gotten their only conference win for the whole season over Kansas already.San Diego St vs Colorado StSan Diego St -3San Diego St got off to a horrible start to the year going 1-3 before winning their last four. They demolished Utah St last week, a team who took down undefeated Boise St the week before. I like the Aztecs if they only have to win by 3.Clemson vs. NC StateClemson -10.5Clemson handed Miami its worst loss ever last week. NC State is 5-2 and has yet to play a team anywhere near as talented as Clemson. With a lot of undefeated teams still remaining Clemson has to show its worth to be included in the playoffs. Another blowout victory here would do that.Central Michigan vs. AkronCentral Michigan -3Central has one of the best passing attacks in the country this year. They also will come into this contest 3-1 in the MAC. They are among the better teams in the MAC and if they want to remain in the competition in the stacked MAC West they need to win this game. Akron isn’t a bad team but they should be beatable.Syracuse vs. Florida StSyracuse +19.5This pick is more from Florida State’s struggles this year. Since opening ACC play, the Seminoles have scored 30 or more points once in five tries. Although Syracuse has dropped four straight they have had some close ones with other good teams including LSU and Pitt. I like Syracuse to keep it close again.Air Force vs. HawaiiAir Force -7Air Force runs that triple option well and is third in the country in rushing yards per game. Hawaii has struggled to score this year being shutout in three of its nine games. With the option attack the game will go quick and Air Force should dominate time of possession. Air Force will run the clock out on Hawaii.Tulsa vs. SMUTulsa -2.5Tulsa’s four losses on the year have come to Oklahoma, Houston, ECU, and Memphis. Those are not bad losses at all. They are able to score points and should beat a one win SMU team this week.USC vs. CalUSC -5.5Many people wondered how a 3-3 USC could be favorites over the third ranked Utes last week. Well USC came out and proved why. This is a game that they shouldn’t take lightly however as Cal has possibly the number one ranked quarterback prospect in the country this year. However, I don’t think Cal has enough talent on the rest of the team to beat an improving USC team. Pages: 1 2 Related TopicsCollege LinesNFL LinesNFL OddsNFL Week 8last_img read more

Takahashi invited to Tokyo marathon

first_img GET THE BEST OF THE JAPAN TIMES Naoko Takahashi will be out to avenge her loss to Ethiopia’s Elfenesh Alemu when she runs in her first competitive full marathon in two years at this month’s Tokyo International Women’s Marathon.Naoko Takahashi IN FIVE EASY PIECES WITH TAKE 5center_img Organizers on Tuesday named Sydney Olympic champion Takahashi and 2003 winner Alemu among 16 invitees who will take part in the race that starts and finishes at National Stadium on Nov. 20.Takahashi became the first Japanese woman to win an Olympic marathon gold medal at the 2000 Games in Sydney but could not defend her title in Athens last year after being dropped in the selection process. The setback resulted from loss to Alemu in the 2003 Tokyo marathon, which served as one of the qualifying races for Japanese runners for the race in Athens. Her time of 2 hours, 27 minutes, 21 seconds failed to convince Japanese athletics officials, and compatriot Mizuki Noguchi won the gold in Greece in her absence.“Looking back, I hadn’t run for a while before that race (the 2003 Tokyo marathon) and I think I was tense and my mind just went blank,” Takahashi said in a statement. “I haven’t really given any thought to race tactics and this time I am going to relax.” last_img read more

They had the guys start the song by singing “Fight Eagles fight…”, instead of the way it should be, “Fly Eagles Fly…”. Sure, small detail, that most people may not know, or care about, but it’s the small details that add up and count. All the while they make everything melodramatic. The same thing happened in Cool Runnings. In the movie the Jamaican team loses because their sled overturns, and then they still pick up their sled and walk to the finish line with everyone cheering. Isn’t that a great ending? It’s not realistic either. In reality the team just didn’t have a fast enough time. To those who have seen it, I’m curious if the film at all addressed the fact that Papale played two years in the old WFL. I fear they made it seem like Papale walked off the street with no previous playing experience. No they didn’t mention that at all, which was very strange. It’s also a bit strange that they said he got in through an open tryout. When looking at Wikipedia, it said he had gotten into a private workout held by Dick Vermeil because of his experience with the Bell. It seems like some of this stuff was made up for the movie. Mississippi State Final Exams: Quarterback

first_imgFinal exams for the fall semester begin this week at Mississippi State. They coincide with the end of the Bulldogs’ regular season.MSU will begin bowl practice when finals conclude. Bowl games will be announced on Sunday.Until then, while Mississippi State takes exams, let’s grade the 2014 season. We’ll grade positions each day leading up to Sunday’s bowl announcement. The summary continues with the quarterbacks. The Numbers Passing Yards: 3,151Total Yards: 4,188Completion Percentage: 61.3Total Touchdowns: 41 Star Pupil Dak Prescott — He had the season everyone expected, which is saying something. He set 10 individual single-season program records during his junior season, including completion percentage, passing yards, touchdowns responsible and total yards. His season performance earned him a spot as a finalist for a number of awards including the Davey O’Brien Award (nation’s top quarterback) and the Maxwell Award (most outstanding player). Needs Improvement Turnovers — Mississippi State turned the ball over 21 times this season, more than half came from the quarterback position. Dak Prescott threw 10 interceptions, one shy of the league worst. Eight of the 10 came in league play. Damian Williams contributed with a fumble. Report Card No player in Mississippi State history has played with higher expectations than Dak Prescott. He entered the season with some thinking he could contend for the Heisman Trophy. Others snickered at the thought. At the end of his first season as MSU’s starting quarterback, he’s in the discussion as being a finalist. He won’t win the award. Oregon’s Marcus Mariota has all but wrapped up the trophy. But Prescott could still represent the school in New York for the first time in program history.Prescott set 10 individual single-season school records.Prescott finished with 38 total touchdowns, 24 through the air, 13 on the ground and one receiving. He set MSU records for passing yards, rushing yards by a quarterback and total yards. The most impressive may be leading Mississippi State to the most regular season wins in school history. A win in the bowl game would give the Bulldogs their first-ever 11 win season. Mississippi Stat ranked No. 1 for the first time in school history. At one point it was the front-runner for the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff.Prescott helped changed the culture in Starkville. The Bulldogs finished with a 10-2 season but an aura of disappointment hung over the community. He’ll have to work on turnovers heading into next season. Teams adjusted to him halfway through the season. The Bulldogs struggled adjusting to the adjustments. Opponents began clogging up the middle and force Prescott to throw.Away from his position, Prescott helped develop a solid core of young wide receivers. De’Runnya Wilson, Fred Brown and Fred Ross all saw improvements from year one to year two. Gabe Myles burst onto the scene with 22 receptions. The chemistry developed should help next year.Damian Williams, in his second season, played in six games. He rotated through the first three with Prescott. The sophomore never found a rhythm and appeared uncomfortable at times. He finished with 155 yards passing and 63 yards rushing. Williams threw for three touchdowns. Final Grade ADak Prescott had the best season of any Mississippi State player in the history of the program. Egleskalns: The Spaniards play brilliantly in defense and stand out with…

first_imgNicosia (Cyprus), Sept. 5, LETA. Before the last two rounds of the European Championship qualifying tournament in Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus, Spanish trumps are a good defense and a common game, but Latvia stands out with an excellent team without skilled players, said Latvian volleyball team leader Herman Egleskalns plays in the shirt of the Latvian national team.It has already been reported that so far the Latvian national team in Cyprus has won three victories and suffered one loss in the first round against today’s opponent Spain. Friday’s match with Moldova turned out to be rich with noteworthy numbers – Deniss Petrovs with 66 fights became the official match of all time in the Latvian volleyball team, ahead of his predecessor in the position of Uģis Krastiņš, Ingars Ivanovs went on the field in his 50th official game, but Egleskalns – 40 in the match.Despite the knee microtrauma, the diagonal player of the Latvian national team has been usually successful.Egleskalns does not remember his first official match in the national team with Great Britain in the 2010 European Championship selection tournament, but the tournament in Riga has remained in his memory.“In ten years, the European Championship qualifiers have been better remembered in 2016, when the group with Slovakia, Croatia and Israel were almost further than the first, but Slovakia had a slightly better set ratio,” the Olympiakos player in Piraeus is best remembered for the tournament, which took place in two rounds in Slovakia and Croatia, with Latvia winning five of the six battles. “We played well and the team was good too.”“Also, the qualifying tournament before the 2013” play-off “matches with Turkey, where we played with France, Spain and Hungary,” Egleskalns remembers previous meetings with the Spanish national team, both of which were won by Latvia. “It is always a pleasure to play for the Latvian national team if you are healthy. . ”The leader of the Latvian national team’s attack says that this is a difficult tournament because “it is difficult to play several games in a row”. “Especially if you have to fight for specific places and there isn’t much rotation in the lineup. That’s why it’s hard to withstand such a load. There hasn’t been such a real holiday – without volleyball, without any warm-up, without any light training – for a long time now. In general, it is not easy, but nothing else is left – you have to play, “explains the jubilee, behind which grow talented diagonal players, but no one has yet gained such experience as Egleskalns.“We’re trying to sleep,” says the player about the chances of recovering during a tense tournament. “Physiotherapist Tom Zvonkov helps and massages, we put ice, it is an anti-inflammatory. We try to use all the recovery options available to us to the maximum.”In four games in Nicosia, it is Spain that has scored the most rebounds in the first round match.“Opponents picked up quite a difficult ball in their defense,” says Egleskalns about the match against Spain. “A couple of balls were on the field after my strokes, but the referee thought they were in the field. This is unusual, because for the last three or four years I have played in championships with video replay, and then you can check if the stroke was on the field. Now without repetition was unusual. There maybe a few points were taken away from us. The match against the Spaniards was awkward. ”“Let’s see how it will be today, when everyone is tired – both we and our opponents. It’s a little harder to play, but we’ve also got to know the opponent a little better. I think it will be better today,” optimism before the fight, victory in Latvia after 25 years The break can be brought into the European Championship finals, retained by a player who has always excelled in professionalism.“Everyone is tired, and you have to save yourself somewhere. Not playing on the field, but outside – maybe in training or some jumps. When the match starts, you can’t talk about saving anymore – I played at full capacity. However, yesterday [piektdienas] our success over Moldova, our builder Petrov very well distributed the load in the attack. Everyone got to play and the attack was diverse, and with good efficiency. It also helped us, and hopefully it will continue to do so today. This diversity is a big plus for us in the attack. ”In this morning’s training, the team’s head coach Avo Kēls gave a slight relief to the players who played in the gym yesterday, assigning them to work in the gym, while the rest spent the entire training with balls on the field. Meanwhile, conditional reservists are also an important driving force in games, because with their active support on the sidelines, they drive those who work on the field. Here the first violin is Edward Buivid, who, without pity, is supported by everyone else.“In a situation where there are not many spectators in the stands, the support of the teammates is very noticeable. It is important and helps a lot,” says the diagonal striker. “The atmosphere on the team is great, and it hasn’t been like this for a long time. Everyone is very friendly. Older players can play PlayStation with the younger ones, be together, joke, and despite the age difference, there is no such pressure from older players on younger ones. “I think it’s also an important factor. We still have joint hockey tournaments on PlayStation, we’re together, and it helps. That’s a positive thing.”Comparing the Spanish team of the already mentioned 2012 qualifying tournament with this year’s model, the volleyball player emphasizes that both Southerners play excellently in defense and the overall game is good.“At that time, there was a more pronounced ‘diagonal’ than in this tournament. We also had older volleyball players in the ranks, and we played well with the Spaniards,” Egleskalns compares. “We haven’t proven that we can play well against them in this tournament. Hopefully this time it will change. When there is this kind of tournament and you can’t really recover, it is quite difficult to switch from one team to another and the games are not the same. Against Moldova we are quite we kept our game and rhythm well, we didn’t fall for the service. It could have been the same against the Spaniards, if I didn’t break in one place. ”The Latvian men’s volleyball team will compete with Spain today in the fifth game of Group D of the European Championship qualifying tournament in Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus, at 5 pm.Latvia, winning three or four sets in a match, will provide a ticket to the final tournament. If the Spaniards fail to beat, they will be able to do so in a match with Cyprus on Sunday. In group D, the leader with nine points in four games is Latvia, followed by Spain and Moldova with six points and three fights, while Cyprus is in the beige.Latvia has managed to qualify for the final tournament in 1995, but Kēl with the Estonian national team – twice. Led by head coach Keh, this is the second attempt for Latvians to enter the European Championship final. In 2018, both the Latvian and Moldovan national teams participated in the European Championship qualification tournament, but none of the teams managed to reach the final tournament.Even before leaving for Cyprus, the Latvian national team in Estonia held three test matches with the local national team, failing in all dues. Duels with the Polish team “Radrad Enea Czarni” in Radom were also planned, but they had to be canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The European Championship qualifying tournament in Group D takes place in the capital of Cyprus, Nicosia, where the two-round matches will take place from 30 August to 6 September.
